Turn on live streaming for your channel
In YouTube Studio, choose Create, then Go live. YouTube asks you to verify a phone number, and the first time it takes up to 24 hours before live streaming is enabled. Nashr cannot start a stream until this is done.
Stream a video file
- Open Media and upload the file. MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio starts fastest.
- Open New stream, pick the file, choose the channel, and add a title.
- Confirm you have the right to broadcast it, then press Go live.
Stream from a link
The link must be reachable from the internet. It can be an HLS playlist ending in .m3u8, an RTMP address, or a direct link to a video file. A link to a web page with a player on it will not work.
My stream will not start
- Check that live streaming is enabled on the channel in YouTube Studio.
- Open the stream and read its activity list; the last line says where it stopped.
- For a link source, open the link in a video player to check it plays.
- Reconnect the channel on the Channels page if access was removed in your Google account.
Do I need to install anything?
No. You connect your YouTube channel, choose a video or paste a stream link, and start the stream from your browser. Our servers send the video to YouTube, so you can close the tab and the stream keeps running.
What can I use as a source?
A video file you upload (MP4, MOV or MKV), or a link to a live stream you run yourself: HLS (.m3u8), RTMP or a direct video file link.
What am I allowed to stream?
Only video you made yourself or have a licence to broadcast. Films, TV channels and sports broadcasts that belong to someone else are not allowed, and streams that break this rule are stopped.
Does my channel need anything set up first?
Live streaming has to be turned on for the channel in YouTube Studio. The first time, YouTube takes up to 24 hours to enable it.
Can Nashr post or delete videos on my channel?
Nashr only asks Google for permission to create and manage live broadcasts. You can remove that permission at any time from your Google account or from the Channels page.
